GPS Gen3 Quick Start Guide
Launch a GPS tracked Asset
Login to your Pathfindr account
Navigate to ‘Launch Asset’
Complete Asset details & select ‘GPS Tracker’ & then ‘Proceed’
Add the GPS Serial Number & ‘Verify’ to complete launch
After launching your device, go into device settings and select one of the broadcast modes below. If you are unsure how to optimise your tracker for your specific use case, please contact: [email protected]
Mode 1 – Fixed Interval
The simplest mode of operation, where configurable pre-set times are used for asset location and data broadcast.
Multiple broadcast times can be adjusted from once per week to a maximum of once per hour.
This mode provides the most accurate estimate of tracker battery life but provides the shortest battery life when set to frequent intervals.
Mode 2 – Transit Mode
This mode improves the battery life significantly by only broadcasting at pre-set times, when physical motion of the asset is detected. For example, if you set the tracker to report every hour, it will only acquire location and broadcast for every hour when motion has been detected within that hour.
Motion threshold can be configured to levels appropriate to the use case and environment.
Mode 3 – Intelligent Mode
Recommended mode for a balance of location accuracy and battery life. Here, the tracker is constantly measuring asset motion and when asset stops moving, location is acquired and broadcasted.
Energy and data is only used when location data needs updating, providing the closest to real-time data. An infrequent fallback broadcast interval is configurable for assets in long term storage.
Motion threshold and resting time can be set by the user to ensure accurate detection of when an asset changes location.
GPS Connectivity Check
The GPS Tracker features a multi-function power button and status LED. This allows you to directly control the device.
Automated connection
At anytime, the device may show the following flashes:
Slow and Short = Attempting a location fix
Fast and short = Attempting a cloud connect
Device status – Single press
To get the device status, press the power button once. You will see one of the following LED responses:
1x flash = Device in dormant/airplane mode
2x flash = Device active, health good
3x flash = Device active, battery low
4x flash = Device hardware failure
Force Data Post and Setting Update – 5 button presses
Forces data post to the cloud and downloads any changed settings:
5x flash = response to button press
Followed by Automated connection response
Charging
Connect your Smart GPS using a USB-C (at 5 V, for 15 W) power.
Check the LED indicator for charging status:
Red Light: The device is currently charging.
Green Light: The device is fully charged and can be disconnected.
For optimal battery life:
Avoid extreme temperatures during charging.
Use the provided charging cable or a certified equivalent.
Do not leave the device plugged in for extended periods after reaching full charge.
Note: When under charge, temperature increases may be evident for the device’s data on the Pathfindr portal.
