GLOSSARY OF TERMS
2G
2G stands for 'second generation', as it's the second type of mobile phone technology.
4G
4G, or "fourth-generation communications system," is the technology that allows for faster and more reliable mobile internet access
AAG
Approach And Go Terminal
API
An application programming interface is a connection between computers or between computer programs. It is a type of software interface, offering a service to other pieces of software. A document or standard that describes how to build such a connection or interface is called an API specification.
Asset
Literally anything you are tracking with Pathfindr!
Asset Flags
User defined flags that can be applied to assets to mark them as 'damaged' or 'first article' for example
Asset Group
Assets that have been paired. Specifically BLE or UWB Tags are paired to a 'parent' GPS tracker. The Tags send their data to the cloud via the GPS tracker. Commonly used for condition monitoring of large assets such as engines.
Asset Kit
A group of assets that form part of a kit
Attributes
User defined fields that can be added to asset Definitions. The service date of a power tool is an example.
Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE)
Bluetooth is a short-range wireless technology that operates in the unlicensed 2.4 GHz ISM to transmit data and build personal area networks (PANs).
Building
A virtual building set up on the Pathfindr platform for indoor asset tracking.
Cell
A subset of a building, required to divide the building into smaller zones.
Dashboard
The landing page you see when logging into the Pathfindr platform. The dashboard can be configured with a variety of widgets.
Definitions
User defined names for asset types. Forklift, Power Tool, IBC and Stillage are common examples.
Delivery Team
Configured by administrators in Settings, delivery teams are responsible for the delivery of assets via the asset request module.
Detector Health
The cellular signal strength of the Detector. Above 85% is ideal.
Device Management Team
Configured by administrators, device management teams are responsible for the maintenance of Pathfindr devices, specifically the batteries in Tags and GPS trackers and power supply of Detectors and Gateways.
Dew Point
The temperature at which condensation occurs is called the Dew point and is dependent upon the humidity and pressure of the air.
Gateway
A communication hub that connects up to 20 Pathfindr Detectors. Ideal for scaling asset tracking in large facilities requiring multiple detectors for comprehensive coverage.
Geofencing
Geofencing uses a device's GPS or other location data to create a virtual boundary around a specific area, triggering notifications when a device enters or exits that boundary. See notification subscriptions.
GPS Tracker
A global asset tracking solution. Utilising GPS, cellular, and LoRa-WAN technology to provide real-time location data. Expand monitoring capabilities by pairing with BLE Tags for comprehensive environmental and condition data.
Humidity
Humidity is a measurement of the amount of water vapour in the air.
Launch
The process of adding an asset to the Pathfindr platform and pairing it with a tracker.
Location
Location is zonal for BLE, a pin drop for UWB and latitude and longitude for GPS.
LoRa
LoRa and LoRaWAN define a low-power, wide-area (LPWA) networking protocol designed to wirelessly connect battery operated devices to the Internet.
LoRaWAN
LoRaWAN is a low-power, wide area networking protocol built on top of the LoRa radio modulation technique. It wirelessly connects devices to the internet and manages communication between end-node devices and network gateways.
Motion / Runtime
If enabled via the edit asset option on a part page, or when launching an asset, motion is logged with start and stop times.
Pending
An asset that has been partially launched (yet to have a tracker assigned to it)
Portal
The Pathfindr web platform
Radar
Used in the Smart Fluid Level Monitor to detector fluid levels in containers, Radar is a system that uses radio waves to determine the distance (ranging), direction (azimuth and elevation angles), and radial velocity of objects relative to the site.
Recycle
The process to retire an asset and mark it as historic by unbinding the tracker.
RFID
RFID (Radio Frequency Identification) is a technology that uses radio waves to read and obtain information and track objects. An RFID system consists of 'readers' and 'tags' where the RFID reader sends out a signal that picks up any RFID tags within its range.
Serial Number
The unique identifier of an asset
Smart Fluid Level Monitor
Our Smart Fluid Level Monitor is a standalone device that operates globally, offering data on fluid levels, location, temperature, and motion.
Tag
Small tracking device
Temperature
Pathfindr devices measure and monitor ambient temperature via sensors inside the devices.
Ultra-Wide Band (UWB)
Ultra-wideband is a short-range, high bandwidth wireless technology that offers precise positioning and tracking and highly secure communications.
Webhook
A webhook is a method for real-time communication between web applications. It allows one application to send data to another as soon as a specific event occurs, rather than requiring a constant check for updates. Think of it as a callback or a "reverse API" where the application initiating the event pushes data to the recipient's specified URL.
Wi-Fi
Wi-Fi technology allows electronic devices to seamlessly connect to each other on a network via radio frequencies. The network (WLAN) allows certain devices to connect to the internet and communicate with each other without physical wiring, as in other cases, such as Ethernet.
Zone
A virtual area as a subset of a building. Detectors are assigned to zones, allowing you to locate assets in the zone.
Part Type
a name assigned to an asset to define the type of asset it is (see definitions)
